Medieval Conference puts town on academic map

TOP historical experts will be coming to Rye to take part in October’s Medieval Conference,

It is the latest in a series of conferences which have seen Rye acknowledged by the academic world as a centre where the latest research in medieval topics can be presented.

The biennial event brings to Rye world class historians who present papers on their latest research before it is published.

This year’s conference, at Rye College, on Saturday October 13, entitled “Religious Realities in Medieval England” will see delegates from all over Britain and abroad arriving in town.

Prof. Michael Hicks, working with Rye Partnership staff and director Jo Kirkham, has organised an outstanding line-up for this year.

Rye Partnership director, Jo Kirkham, herself a local historian, said, “This is an apt topic for Rye, particularly with St Mary’s Church being such an iconic landmark. We hope that many people, whether they consider themselves academic or not, join us at Rye College.

Tickets are available from Rye Partnership at Tilling Green Community Centre at £30 (including lunch) or £15 for registered students. Call 01797 229600 or email janet.tiltman@ryepartnership.org.
