Fairlight

Art Club: The Art Club Exhibition and Wine and Cheese evening was very well attended, helped by the excellent article in your Observer last week. I am amazed how so much wine and food can be provided for just £4. Congratulations to all who helped. The standard was high, with a number of paintings sold. If, on reflection, there is an exhibited painting you would now like to buy, why not ring Julie Marshall on 01424-813104 and she will put you in touch with the artist.

Parish Council: By the time you read this the Parish Council will have considered a proposal to have The Cove public house and Restaurant registered as a Community Asset. That would give local people some chance to bid were it likely to be sold for some other use. Registration of pubs is something which has already been done in other villages around the country.

Pub Quiz: On Wednesday 1 June at 8.00 pm there is a quiz at The Cove.

Gardening Club: On Monday 6 June there is an outing to Friary Gardens on The Ridge. Meet at the car park by the Gardens at 2.30pm. If I remember correctly there will be plants for sale. Although there is no coach arranged you may phone Karen Draper on 01424-814154 should you need a lift or further information.

Open Gardens: On Saturday 11 June (Queen’s official birthday) and Sunday 12 June from 10.30am to 4.00pm seventeen gardens in Fairlight will be opened to the public in aid of the Cliff Preservation Fund. The cost is just £4 for adults to cover all seventeen gardens. Children go free. Sounds like a lot of fun for the visitors and a long and hard weekend for the participants.

Street Party: Also to celebrate the Queen’s birthday on 11 June there will be a street party in the Broadway by the Village Hall. This runs from 4.30pm to 7.00pm. Please bring your own plate of food and dress in patriotic colours if you can.

MOPPs: Today singer Tim Gibson entertains with hits from Roy Orbison to Elvis Presley and ballads from Dean Martin to Matt Monro. Lunch will be Roast Pork and if you have room, Fruit Jelly for afters. Next week 3rd June Heather Goodsell will be giving a talk entitled “Hedgerows & Herbs” and lunch will be Steak Pie followed by Fruit Crumble.

Also to advise that tickets are now on sale at Fairlight Post Office for the MOPP’s Cream Tea to be held at the Village Hall from 3pm on Sunday 26th June. With compere Jim Saphin, singers Jean Selfridge, Sharon Sellens and Carol George as well as scones, cream and jam, tickets are bound to sell out quickly so buy now and enjoy celebrating the Queen’s Birthday and raising much needed funds for MOPPs.
