Progress to convert the former Roman Catholic Church on Station Road into a Community Shop and Café has leapt forward following news of a successful bid for Lottery Funding. Big Lottery Fund have approved a grant to fund the conversion and fit out works for the shop and café project, to create a stylish and friendly shopping environment and meeting space. Interior design and layout advice has been provided by a designer who, herself, has been substantially involved with an award winning community shop in West Sussex.

The shop and café will provide all the staples and groceries that you would expect from a village shop together with a range of locally sourced fresh produce. In addition the shop is looking to reintroduce Post Office services back into the village. Builders are going on site as you read this and will be there for the next month or so.

With the opening of the shop and café getting closer, advertising is currently underway for the post of a Manager, the closing date for applications is next Friday, March 8. The community shop will also provide volunteering opportunities, with volunteers working under the Manager’s supervision.

If you would like to receive a full job description for the Manager post or information on volunteering at the community shop then e-mail shop@hurstgreen.com Alternatively you can keep in touch with the community shop project on their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hurst-Green-Community-Shop-Cafe/176047182475093
