Iden W. I. will meet on Tuesday 8th May in the village hall at 7.30 pm.

The annual Coffee Morning for the Children’s Society will be held on Saturday 12th May at 10. 30 am in the village hall. There will be refreshments, lots of stalls and a raffle. Please give them your usual support, everyone is welcome.

Iden held its Annual Parochial Church Meeting last week. The following officers were elected : Church Wardens Mr. Michael Miller; Mr. John Smith; Hon. Secretary Mrs. Paddy Coulman; Hon. Treasurer Mr. Michael Miller; members of the PCC are Mrs. Elsie Fairhall, Mrs. Joy Ramus, Mr. Charles Walton, Mr .Bob Chandler, Mrs. Paula Riley, Mrs. Susannah Miller, Mrs. Judith Hogg. The Deanery Synod representative is Mr. Michael Miller.

The concert in Iden Church last Saturday was a sell out and a very enthusiastic audience who had turned out in atrocious weather, enjoyed the recital by the Navarra Quartet. These young musicians last visited Iden 5 years ago and since then their careers and reputation has gone from strength to strength. The works played were by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Schubert accompanied by occasional noisy gusts of wind from the gale going on outside, which only added to the atmosphere and in no way dented the audience’s enjoyment.

The concert was organised by Gill and Tony Clamp and a donation will be made to the Friends of Iden Church towards the restoration fund for this magnificent 12th century building.

The day was also accompanied by an exhibition in the Old Hall of paintings by Rye artist Martin Bradshaw and again was well attended despite the rain. A raffle for one of his paintings of Iden Church was held as part of the concert preliminaries and there is now a very happy owner

As always the Friends are very grateful to Gill and Tony for all they do to arrange these events and sell the tickets. They both have a particular love of the Church which makes an excellent venue for concerts, not only from a sound point of view but also its sheer beauty

Don’t forget that the Iden Singers are tonight (Friday 4 May) putting on their postponed concert in Iden Church at 7.30pm. This consists of readings and Songs of Praise. Entrance is free with refreshments afterwards and a collection will be made for the acoustic work recently completed, with considerable successful results, in the Old Hall

The 9.30 am service on Sunday will be Family Communion led by the Vicar.
