Long-serving Westfield councillor Joan Downing cut the ribbon on a new bench which was presented by the Parish Council for public use.

The bench bears an inscription to mark Joan’s forty years as a Westfield Parish Councillor.

Fellow Councillors and members of the public attended, and a speech of thanks was made by the Parish Council chairman James Woodhead.

The date coincided with the 30th anniversary of the opening of the community hall for which Joan is a life-time president, a role that recognises the work she did to raise the money for the hall and the support she gives to activities held there.

John Barnett, chairman of the community association also thanked Joan.
