BATTLE’S youngest town councillor has been elected to a key role.

Cllr Rob McDonald has been officially elected chairman of the council’s Communications Committee.

Former Claverham pupil Rob, 25, is a councillor for the town’s Watch Oak Ward.

Speaking about his new role, Rob said that it represented a real challenge.

He said: “The Coalition Government’s plans to devolve more power down to local people to run local affairs could only succeed if there was good communication between local councillors and their electorate.

“My election shows that Battle Town Council meant what it said about wanting to encourage more, younger people to play an active part in running the town. I hope more will follow my lead and become involved in what is known as the grass roots level of local democracy.”
