We can restore self-respect

So, Rother and Wealden RDC benefited from £4.85m of EU funding for rural area projects (including private commercial operations), received over 11 years (15/7/16).

As remainers remind us, its our tax-payers’ money ‘returned to us as EU funds’.

So that’s £441,000 per annum: on average about £1.75 per local capita - a half-pint - or about £4.25 per ratepayer per annum.

Yet to receive our ‘free’ funding we each gave the EU about £225... which doubtless makes economic sense to a politician who, like the remainers, would have you believe that without that ‘EU funding’ our combined 240,000 residents would be living in a culturally and socially deprived, poverty stricken wilderness.

Yet about half of these EU-funds was ‘match-funding’ usually received after the project was completed and the bills paid... but those who contributed don’t get a penny back.

When we cadets wanted to extend our rifle range in the pre-EU 1960s (or Guides and Scouts wanted to buy new equipment), we ran raffles, jumble sales or lines of pennies to raise money without lazily calling upon tax-payers.

Thank goodness, post-Brexit, we can restore our self-respect, pride and communal self-reliance without grovelling for our own money back from the EU - with strings attached.
