Young people wanted to stay

I attended the meeting in Battle about the EU referendum. Thank you Huw Merriman for organising these meetings.

During questions, one of your regular correspondents, John Hill, said he was waiting for young people to tell him how to vote as they would have to live with this decision well into the future.

There were two articulate 18 year olds who responded to him explaining why he should vote Remain. These two shared the same views as the majority of young people. Seventy-three per cent of 18 to 25 year olds who voted in the referendum voted Remain.

David Cameron gave us this Referendum to appease the factions in his Tory party.

Now we have the result which young people didn’t want and will have to live with it for very much longer than I will, with Scotland and Northern Ireland beginning the potential break up of the United Kingdom and David Cameron, a man who tried in vain to detoxify ‘the nasty party’, stepping down. What a legacy.

Not only are young people concerned about the future of this country, imagine the feelings of those who voted to leave when they won’t see any of the extraordinary promises made by Brexiters come to pass.
