16/2/13- First open day of the year at Great Dixter, Northiam.

NORTHIAM’S Great Dixter House and gardens were open to the public for the first time this year at the weekend.

It gave gardening enthusiasts the rare opportunity to see the gardens in winter and view signs of the coming spring, including snowdrops and crocuses.

For many visitors it was the first chance to see the newly restored Great Barn and oast house on the estate.

The nursery was open allowing people to buy plants and plan their garden.

Great Dixter is open again this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 4pm.

Perry Rodriguez, from Great Dixter, said: “Winter work on the garden is ongoing and people will have the chance to view this progress before the official opening.”
