Antique clock and oil painting stolen

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a number of items, including an antique clock, an oil painting and jewellery, were stolen during a burglary in Westfield.

The property in Westfield Lane was broken into some time between Thursday July 26 and Wednesday August 1.

A number of items were stolen including a clock, which had been previously valued by Sotheby’s auctioneers and a mahogany wooden jewellery box with red lining and single removable draw containing a selection of jewellery.

The thieves also got away with an oil painting depicting a cock fight, featuring four or five men bending down watching.

The painting was framed in a brown stained wooden frame.

The painting was bought in the Middle East and is believed to be worth around £300.

Neighbours of the property have told police they remember hearing a loud bang come from the house around midnight on Tuesday July 31 into the morning of Wednesday August 1.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information about the burglary, is asked to call Sussex Police on 101, quoting serial 1596 of 2/8.

Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
