Bingo clubs need more help, says MP

Bingo clubs should be given more support, according to the MP for Hastings.

Michael Foster has joined with 56 other MPs to call on the Government to offer more help to struggling bingo clubs.

The MP said: "As a coastal resort town Hastings has a history of bingo clubs.

"They not only generate income for the town but also provide a social hub for the community. I understand the Government want to discourage irresponsible gambling but Bingo is a pretty harmless pastime.

"I therefore want the Government to adopt a taxation policy of 'fiscal neutrality' with regard to bingo clubs. That is to say I believe their tax burden should be reduced so as to come into line with other forms of gaming and I have signed a Parliamentary motion asking this of the Government."

One of Hastings' most popular bingo halls, the Deluxe Bingo on Hastings Pier, closed last year - much to the disappointment of regular bingo fans.
