A SPECIAL event to bless Rye’s fishing fleet took place on the Quayside on Saturday during the closing weekend of the Rye Bay Scallop Festival.

The service was conducted by the Reverend Dick Dengate who is also a farmer based at Peasmarsh.

The weekend also saw scallop cookery demonstrations and the famous What A Load of Scallops Race at the Strand by the Ship Inn on Sunday morning.
