Bonfire boost for local charities

BONFIRE celebrations at Icklesham have provided £3,000 for local charities and good causes.

The Robin Hood Bonfire Society handed out cash at a special presentation evening recently.

Those to benefit included Icklesham Village Trust; Icklesham C of E Primary School; Young Carers Association; The Samaritans; Icklesham Church Tower fund; Pett Level Rescue Boat Association and The Oliver Curd Trust.

Money raised from the Robin Hood boot sales also saw donations being made to Icklesham Cricket Club; the OAPs party; the school fete and the Horticultural Society.

Chairman Kevin Wall said: “Over the last 10 years this little bonfire society has raised and donated over £21,000 which has been donated to a vast amount of different charities.

“We are now looking forward to a great 2012 and also any new members if you wish to join.

“I would like to take this opportunity in thanking all the local businesses who have supported us over the last 10 years, especially our auction of promises and hope we can rely on your continued support.”
