Boxes full of goodies being shipped out to UK troops in Afghanistan
Dozens of boxes crammed full of goodies will be sent out to UK forces in Afghanistan today (Friday), thanks to generous staff at Hastings Magistrates Court and the public.
For the last fortnight workers there, as well as solicitors and police officers have been bringing in everyday items such as toiletries and bars of chocolate for the Thank the Forces charity, which is based in Polegate.
David Harrington, court keeper, said: "I am ex-military myself and served in the Army for 37 years. I was in Kuwait at the end of the first Gulf War in 1991 so I know first-hand what it is like for soldiers to receive a little piece of home.
"Two weeks ago I put up flyers in the canteen at the court and emailed court staff, many who are ex-military themselves, as well as police officers next door at the police station.
"The response has been great and the public have been bags of goodies to be put in boxes. Every little helps as receiving these boxes makes life out in the front line a little easier."
