Charity offers life-line to seriously ill people in the Rye area

A ceremony took place at Rye Memorial Care Centre on Saturday to open a treatment room for the Sara Lee Trust.

The Trust is a charity that provides support for those with life-limiting diseases,l such as caner or motor neurone. It was set up in 1995 in memory of Sara Lee who died aged 32 of cancer.

Throughout her two years of living with cancer Sara used complementary therapy to enhance her quality of life, ease symptoms and helps maintain her independence to the end of her life.

The treatment room at Rye has been open since May and complements an existing treatment room at St Michael's Hospice, in St Leonards.

Saturday's official opening was conducted by Jenny Yeo, a trustee of the charity who leads a fund raising team.

Maria Gonet, from the charity, said: "We provide complementary therapies, creative arts and counselling.

"Having the facility at Rye is important for people in this area who are ill and not really up to travelling all the way to Hastings.

"The treatment room here is already being well used and making a real difference to people."
