Choc football from Haywards Heath helps England win at last in World Cup
A chocolate football from Haywards Heath helped England qualify for the next round of the World Cup.
It was given to Phil Dennett, from Burgess Hill, by workmates to celebrate his 60th birthday.
Phil said today: "I told my wife Chris we couldn't share it until England won their next game, which was a gamble judging by the way they played in the first two matches. I was afraid if we ate it that it might bring bad luck and England might go out of the World Cup.
"My wife loves chocolate so she was a bit worried and thought the Thorntons chocolate football, which office colleagues kindly presented to me at a birthday luncheon, might be well out of code by the time the team won.
"But I was convinced we would win 1-0 today and we washed the choc down with a nice pudding wine. We cracked it open as soon as the game ended and, like England's victory, it tasted great."
England won 1-0 against Slovenia to finish second to USA in their group to progress to the next round on Sunday when they play Germany.
