GENEROUS businesses and members of the community have pulled together to improve facilities at Battle Memorial Hall.

The Wynne Room, recently vacated by the Royal British Legion, has been extensively refurbished, thanks to a band of volunteers who gave their time, expertise and equipment.

The adjacent kitchen also enjoyed an extensive make over, courtesy of the Crafted Group and Battle Floors.

Crafted supplied and fitted a whole new kitchen for free, saving the hall an estimated £5,000 to £6,000.

Dale Cromwell, owner of the Crafted Group, said: “We had already done some tiling in the toilets for them for free and it just came up in conversation that they did not have the money to sort out the kitchen.

“So I decided to offer it up.

“Most of Crafted’s work is Battle-based and the Memorial Hall is important to the community.

“It’s just something I wanted to do to help, really.”

Adams & Jarrett donated an electric double oven for the kitchen and Sussex Plumbing Supplies donated the sink, taps and fittings, which were then installed by Crafted.

Dale said he had lost count of how many hours he and his team spent on the project.

He said: “It was a good week’s work for a couple of guys at least.

“We did it all during the evenings and some daytimes so we could get it done in the timescale.”

A number of other businesses, many from Battle, have donated to the project, from carpets and curtains to electrical items.

Businesses and individuals who have donated include Curtains By Rae, Bates Plumbing and Heating, R&R Kitchens, Gerry Williams, Battle Interiors, Shades, Stamco, Robert Emeleus, Payback the Community, Mark Smith, Howdens, Tony Calloway and local residents Laura and Elizabeth.

The Wynne Room, on the first floor of the Battle Memorial Hall, can accommodate up to one hundred people and is currently available to hire.
