Council Tax freeze agreed by Rother
MONDAY’S full meeting of Rother District Council saw members confirm a decision to freeze the authority’s portion of the council tax for 2013-14.
It means Rother’s part of the tax levied on an “average” Band D property will remain at £161.19.
This is despite Rother needing to find almost £1.5 million of savings over the next two years.
Rother’s part is less than 15 per cent of the total Council Tax bill, the rest being made up of charges from East Sussex County Council, fire and police services and parish councils.
But with councillors also agreeing plans to find some £500,000 in savings this year and £1 million next year, residents have been warned of an inevitable impact on services.
Council leader Cllr Carl Maynard said: “Joint working with other councils is going to be crucial.
“We have been hit hard by cuts (in central government funding) and as much as we will continue to be innovative, residents must understand that these financial pressures mean we have to make hugely difficult decisions.”
