Eastbourne scout band enjoys Canadian adventure

EASTBOURNE Scout band, The Kingfishers, has recently returned from performing at the Calgary Stampede in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The 28-strong party performed in the stampede parade and supporting events on the 10-day trans-Atlantic trip.

One member, Rebecca Bigsby, aged 11, said, "Going up into the Rockies was excellent and I will never forget playing with the band on this amazing trip."

The Calgary Stampede is an internationally renowned event at which The Kingfishers last performed in 2000. The return trip was made possible through two years' dedicated fund-raising by band members and their parents.

The band is made up from Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and leaders from Eastbourne District Scouts and has a fine reputation both at home and abroad.

Since being formed in 1976, it has played in Canada, Kenya, France and Jersey and also at many local events.

Bandmaster Alan Archer invites potential new members and people wishing to book the band to contact him on 01323 761016.
