Environmental issues are on the agenda as group meets in Rye

ROTHER Environment Group holds its next monthly meeting on Tuesday February 26 at 7.15pm in the back room of the Queens Head at Landgate.

Christopher Strangeways, from the group, said: “ Last our colleagues in Battle arranged a very interesting and useful meeting on Waste and Recycling in Rother. There are a lot of changes ahead.

“This month it is business as usual but with some fairly important topics on the agenda.

“Bexhill Environment Group and the local United Nations Association are organising a conference on the subject of water in April. REG is being asked to contribute to the event.

“The Energy Bill in its current form is sadly incomplete. It lacks a target for carbon free energy generation.

“Targets may sound a bit like jargon but they can be effective levers for political action.

“Last year the Government struck out a carbon-free electricity target from new draft energy laws.

“But Tim Yeo MP has tabled a vital “green jobs” amendment which would put the target back in.”
