Ex-masonic treasurer is charged with fraud

A FORMER treasurer of a masonic lodge in Rother has been charged with fraud.

Stewart Rutter, 72, has been charged with fraud by abuse of position and false accounting.

The offences are alleged to have occurred while the pensioner was acting as treasurer of the Tilsmore Masonic Lodge in Burwash Weald.

Rutter, of London Road, Hailsham, is due to appear at Eastbourne Magistrates Court on November 1.

Rutter is currently on police bail.

Tilsmore Masonic Lodge meets at the Heffle Masonic Centre on Stonegate Road on the third Tuesday of the month.
