A MULTI-MEDIA exhibition and performance art show at Rye’s School Creative Centre tonight (Friday) will highlight women’s issues and raise funds for the Refuge charity.

The School Creative Centre has joined forces with Riart Grrrls - Hastings and Rye Art Gallery to present Domestic Disturbance, an evening of interventions, live music, comedy, story-telling, cabaret and workshops.

The evening, which runs from 6-11pm provides local women with the opportunity to share and celebrate their creativity at the same time as raising funds for a good cause.

The evening opens at 6pm with a multimedia exhibition showcasing work from more than 30 local and international artists, all responding to the theme of Domestic Disturbance.

Many of the pieces have been specially created for the event and will be available for sale on the night.

Guests can create a unique print as part of Jenny Edbrooke’s body-painting workshop and experience the intimate telling of traditional stories with Hillary Watkins.

The evening also includes live art by Miranda Sharp and Xaverine Bates.

Rye’s Guerilla Knitters will bring their yarn bombing activities into the theatre, offering the chance for anyone to have a go and knit and natter.

The evening’s entertainment continues with hosts Jenny Edbrooke and Kate Tym and features rising stars on the London comedy circuit Croft and Pearce, international vocalist Rachel Cuming, naïve pop songwriter Gardy Loo Spew, cabaret artist Bryony Kimmings and DJ Jane Marriner.

Esther Sam has created a delicious menu for the night with a focus on local, seasonal produce, and there will be a licensed bar.

Tickets are £10 (with profits going to Refuge) and are available from www.theschoolcreativecentre.co.uk, Martello Bookshop Rye and Knit Connections, Hastings. Refuge is a domestic abuse charity that provides a network of emergency safe houses for women and children when they are most in need.
