Exhibition on life in Robertsbridge

A exhibition on village life is on show in Bexhill from next week.

Folk-Us on Robertsbridge is a photographic display of everyday goings-on in the village and will be on display at the De La Warr Pavilion from 10am to 6pm on May 24, 25, and 26.

Last summer a small group of residents with cameras met, snapped, discussed and produced a photographic archive of village life.

The group, under the guidance of fine art photographer Malcolm Glover, and organised by the Robertsbridge Arts Partnership, created a contemporary portrait of the village which, although uniquely theirs, could also reflect any small community in England.

This project played an important role in encouraging the participants to celebrate local culture and to take a positive look through the lens at all aspects of village life.

Mr Glover said: "The groups worked well together and I think the dynamic is illustrated in the images."

Alan Haydon, director of the Pavilion, said: "Folk-Us has been an exemplary arts project, engaging the Robertsbridge community in a self determined way to make and present a contemporary photographic portrait.

"We are proud to have the opportunity of showing the exhibition to a wider audience."

The exhibition and catalogue includes work by Terry Boughton, Ian Clarke, Ann Cook, Brian Hayward, Beryl Finbow, Pam Golding, John Paine, Beatrice Petkoff, Sue Prochak, Helen Ridout, Michael Stokoe, Sue Stokoe, Bernadine Schultz and the pupils at Robertsbridge Community College.

Folk-Us on Robertsbridge was instigated and presented by The Independent Photographers Gallery, Battle in connection with the Robertsbridge Arts Partnership and sponsored by Rother District Council, and Awards For All.

The exhibition is on display at the Admission is free.
