Fire at Hope Anchor

GUESTS were evacuated from the Hope Anchor Hotel at Watchbell Street, Rye in the early hours of Friday morning after a glass washer caught fire.

Rye firefighter Andy Polley said: “There was some minor smoke damage. It was not serious. The rubber hose at the back of the glass washer was smouldering which caused some bad fumes.

”The guests were allowed back in within an hour.”
