Florist forgets funeral flowers
A FLORIST has apologised after a family's order for funeral tributes was mislaid and the service went ahead without them.
Wreaths were ordered from Breeze Flowers in Eastbourne for an elderly woman's funeral on Monday last week but when the hearse arrived at Langney Crematorium the coffin was bare.
The Compton Street firm said the order had been discovered after being mislaid in the Mother's Day rush when it was too late to make them up and deliver them to the crematorium.
The shop has apologised and refunded the cash but the woman's granddaughter, Andrea Korpics, says her family is devastated.
"I ordered and paid 140 for the flowers a week beforehand and the funeral took place at 9.45am on Monday," she said.
"My mum and I were waiting for the hearse and when it turned up it just looked so bare, as we had only asked for family flowers.
"It was very upsetting at the time and embarrassing and I couldn't even concentrate on what was going on. Now I am angry. I went into the shop but I was so upset I could barely talk to them. It's disgusting that we were let down in this way.
"I know it was Mother's Day the day before and they were probably busy but that is no excuse."
Gerry Mooney, the proprietor of Breeze Flowers, told the Gazette, "We are very deeply and sincerely sorry for this mistake.
"There are no excuses for such an unfortunate error, particularly when your business is all about delivering on time.
"We at Breeze Flowers are absolutely devastated that we let someone down so awfully. We have delivered thousands of funeral pieces over the years without letting a customer down but we understand that one is too many.
"It is now very difficult to make up for something so important to someone and we can only sincerely apologise."
