GALLERY: Boxing Day Hunt

PEOPLE lined Lewes High Street six deep from the White Hart to Shelley's Hotel for the Southdown and Eridge Hunt's Boxing Day meet - the biggest day in the hunting calendar.

Hunt secretary Anne Chatterton told the Express the mounted field was bigger than ever before with 115 riders and horses.

Kennel huntsman Stewart Blackburn added: 'There were no protesters this year which made for a good atmosphere all round.

'There were no pavement barriers either so people could meet the hounds.'

The hunt moved up the High Street to the Downs where a special trail had been laid for hounds to follow.

The upsurge in local support was mirrored nationally with more than 250,000 followers taking part in hunts throughout the country.
