Guided walk

WINCHELSEA Archaeological Society will be running a cellar tour tomorrow (Saturday).

It will start at 2pm from Castle Street and last about 90 minutes.

The cost is £5. To book a place, call 01797 225333 (answerphone) or email tours@winchelsea.net.

More information can be found on www.winchelsea.net/tours.

The society will also be leading a guided walk on Sunday of the little-known remains of the western defences and suburbs of the medieval town.

The walk will proceed to the New Gate at the southernmost point of the medieval town, then back along the western slopes of Iham Hill, through open countryside, alongside what was St Leonards Creek, past the location of the missing Pewis Gate, along the lost streets of Pook and Budge Lanes, to the abandoned village of Petty Iham.

The route is about two miles. The tour starts at Castle Street at 2pm and lasts about two-and-a-half hours
