Help for ME sufferers
SUFFERERS of ME and their carers can find out about the latest research into the debilitating illness at a special event in Burgess Hill.
Hurstpierpoint based charity reMEmber is hosting the event on Saturday May 9 in the Sheldrake Suite, Martlets Hall, Burgess Hill, starting at 2.30pm.
The first speaker is the charity's medical adviser, Dr Karen Walker-Bone, who will give a presentation on pain management. Dr Walker-Bone is a consultant rheumatologist at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.
She will be followed by Dr Amalak Bansal of St Helier Hospital who is the clinical lead for Surrey's ME service. Dr Bansal attended the recent International Conference on ME in Reno, Nevada and he will talk on the latest research.
Jan Alcoe, psychologist and social care facilitator, will follow him with an illustrated talk on the holistic approach to long term illness.
Jan, who has successfully coped with cancer and ME, has written a guide called "Lifting Your Spirits" to help patients cope with treatments for acute and chronic illness and the frustration and pain that can go with them.
Although the talks are aimed at people with fibromyalgia and ME they will also be of great interest to people with other chronic illnesses such as arthritis and diabetes, and to carers.
Tickets cost 3 and include refreshments. All proceeds to reMEmber to help people with ME. For tickets please call Janice Kent on 01273 831733, and send a cheque made out to reMEmber and a stamped addressed envelope to PO Box 1647, Hassocks, West Sussex BN6 9GQ. Admission is by ticket only.
