Historic church clock keeping time again

Rye Church Clock

Rye Church Clock

THE Friends of St Mary’s Church, Rye, held a celebration to mark the completion of the restoration of one of the oldest working tower clocks in England.

Chair of the Friends Colonel Anthony Kimber said: “This is a clock of national importance and if judged by the amount of photographs of it on the Internet, one of Rye’s most viewed tourist attractions.

The skilled work by craftsmen from across the Country took six months and cost £33,000.

“We are most grateful to Rother District and Rye Councils and many local organisations and individuals for cash contributions.

“Full details of the project can be found on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/FriendsOfStMarysChurchRye?ref=hl“
