Homes without power after car crashed into telegraph pole

MORE than 80 homes were left without power when a car crashed into a telegraph pole in Westfield in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).

The driver was travelling along Church Lane just before 5.30am when the accident happened.

Police, firefighters and an ambulance attended, taking the man to hospital for medical checks.

Engineers from UK Power Networks were at the scene this morning making urgent repairs to the power network.

Niamh Arnett, UK Power Networks press officer, said: “At 5.38am today we received a call from the fire service advising us that an overhead power line had been brought down in the incident.

Initially, this interrupted power supplies to 81 customers, but engineers rerouted power to all but 37 customers by about 9.45am while arranging repairs to restore electricity supplies to all the remaining customers.

“Considerable repair work is expected to continue at the scene throughout the day. We will be replacing the electricity pole and returning the electricity network to normal.”
