‘Lock it or lose it’, drivers told by police

MOTORISTS are being told to ‘lock it or lose it’ following several reports of items being stolen from cars in rural Rother.

Wallets, bags and bank cards have been taken from vehicles which have been left unlocked.

Thieves stole a wallet from an insecure vehicle at Longhouses, Brightling, at 10.20am on September 5.

And just four days later, on September 9, police received a report of a purse and handbag being taken from an insecure vehicle in Telham Lane, Battle.

In a separate incident, a disabled blue badge was stolen from an insecure vehicle in Church Street, Ticehurst, at 11am on September 13.

There have also been similar incidents reported in Rye, Rye Harbour and Winchelsea Beach between September 7-16.

Police have not said whether any of the thefts are being linked.

PC Jayne Cleverley, of the Battle Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “There have been a few thefts from vehicles.

“These were all insecure so I would like to offer some advice which we try to repeat as much as possible - lock it or lose it and remember, if property is on display, it’s easy prey!

“Do not advertise your valuables to thieves by leaving sat navs, bags and wallets in clear view.

“If you care about your property, please remove it from your vehicle.”
