Man arrested after serious A21 crash

A MOTORIST has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving following a crash which left a young woman in hospital with serious injuries.

Police were called to the A21 Vinehall Road, near John’s Cross, at 9.40pm on Wednesday (September 19) following reports a vehicle had hit a tree.

A Vauxhall Astra van was travelling south towards Hastings when it came off the road and collided with a tree before rebounding back onto the carriageway.

The passenger, a 21-year-old woman from Tonbridge, Kent, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with serious injuries.

She is currently in a stable condition.

The road was closed for around four hours while police investigated.

The 27-year-old male driver, also from Tonbridge, has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, careless driving and driving while disqualified.

Anyone who saw the vehicle in the area, or saw what happened, is asked to call police on 101 quoting Operation Newmill.
