Man critically ill after hit-and-run
POLICE are repeating their appeal for witnesses following a road traffic collision on the A27 Lewes by-pass last Sunday (June 7th).
The collision occurred at about 3.45am when a blue Ford transit van was in collision with a pedestrian and failed to stop at the scene.
As a result of the collision the pedestrian, a 25-year-old man from Uckfield, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and is in a critical condition.
The scene of the collision was closed by police whilst a full examination was undertaken.
As a result of enquiries a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at a serious road traffic collision and has been bailed until September 11.
Inspector Steve Grace, from the Road Policing Unit, is again appealing for witnesses to the collision.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: He'd particularly like to hear from anyone who may have seen a man walking in the carriageway on the A27 between Kingston and Southerham in the early hours of that morning.
"He'd also like the taxi or mini cab driver who contacted the police to get in touch again.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigation team on 0845 60 70 999, quoting Operation Millport."
