BEXHILL and Battle MP Greg Barker has followed up concerns about the spread of the poisonous weed ragwort in fields and commons around Ninfield.

The problem has been highlighted by local district councillor Pam Doodes and was featured in the Observer.

Earlier this month Mr Barker, who is Minister for Climate Change, took time to go and see the problem for himself.

He said: “I should like to remind local landowners of their responsibility to identify and remove ragwort from their lands before seeds are set.

“I shall also be raising this matter with the Secretary of State for the Environment to see if more can be done to raise awareness nationally.”

Alkaloid toxins in ragwort are dangerous to both livestock and humans if ingested and pose a threat to the countryside if not controlled.
