MP slams Eurostar
By: Andy.Hemsley HASTINGS MP Michael Foster has slammed a decision by Eurostar to cut trains running from Ashford International.
Eurostar announced last week that its new terminal at Ebbsfleet will become the main station for trains to the continent.
Worst hit by cuts to the service at Ashford will be trains to Brussels which face being axed completely.
In a letter to the Managing Director of Eurostar the MP has told Eurostar that the option of travelling to Dartford is not in the interest of the economy of East Sussex and South Kent.
"The Ashford link to Europe which has become more important since the opening of the Ashford to Brighton express service provides a quick and easy link to Brussels and beyond and is important to the business community" said the MP.
The MP in his letter to Eurostar pointed out that Dartford was inaccessible by direct rail link from South Coast Towns and by road was near impossible. It would have a detrimental affect on the Rye marsh link service and was ill thought out.
The proposals are that the service from Ashford International would be restricted to four trains a day to Paris with the Brussels service being axed completely.
The MP said: "I much hoped that with local pressure these foolish proposals could be reviewed."
