Mystery over Rye pub closure
Mystery surrounds the closure of a popular Rye pub.
The Union in East Street has been closed since Sunday June 21 without any notice or warning, leaving many local pub-goers baffled.
The Union is a 15th century pub with wooden beams.
It was first licensed in 1420 and is considered to be a fine example of medieval architecture.
It is said to be haunted by a number of ghosts, including that of a tall man wearing a naval or excise man's uniform.
The Union was a regular meeting place for Rye Allotments Association.
Royston Godwin, from the Association, said: "It appears to be closed for the foreseeable future and we are looking for somewhere else to meet.
Landlord Michael Murray was not available for comment at the time of going to press.
