New green group will help transform Rye
A NEW group is playing a key role in helping to make Rye a more environmentally friendly place to live and work.
Transition Rye is part of the Transistion Towns movement.
Transition Towns have grown as grassroots responses to the demands of peak oil, climate destruction and economic instability; local communities responding positively to the challenges that these issues bring.
From simple community gardens that encourage people to grow their own fruit and vegetables, to community energy projects that reduce household bills and provide the community with income to invest in new projects.
To find out more how it could relate to Rye, the Transition Rye group will be showing the film ’In Transition 2.0’ at Rye Community Centre, Conduit Hill, on Friday November 9 followed by a discussion.
The film explores the process of building a transition group with examples from the 200 plus groups in the UK and 1,800 plus groups around the world.
Doors open 6:30pm for a 7pm start. Admission £3 on the door, including complementary drink which has been sourced locally.
Rye councillor Nigel Jennings said: “This is an opportune time for the Transition Rye with the town about to launch into a Neighbourhood Plan following the successful meeting last month held by the Town Council. So if you have an interest in looking at local community led solutions to some of the big challenges of our times, then this film and discussion is for you.”
The group held a recent successful Swap Shop in Rye.
