CREATIVE youngsters from Northiam Primary School have been helping newly formed Northiam Bonfire Society come up with a design for its procession banner.

Bonfire Society secretary Helen Sitford said: “We asked the children to design our pennant which will be used as the head of our processions in honour of our bonfire society.”

The committee chose a winning design and two runners up and went to the school on Monday to award certificates and prizes during morning assembly.

Isaac Lambert-Knott came up with the winning design, pictured here, and the runners-up were Charlotte Little and Jenny Hall.

The Bonfire Society is currently busy fund-raising and hopes to hold it’s first event in the coming bonfire season with autumn, with a torch-lit procession and fireworks display.

It will be the first time the village has had a proper bonfire society since the 1950’s.
