Ongoing link road protest hits London

COMBE Haven protestors took to the streets of London at the weekend to take part in a 150,000 strong demo.

Campaigners from Battle, Hastings and Bexhill made their point by distributing ten thousand copies of the Combe Haven Defenders anti-Link Road pledge last Saturday at the TUC’s massive “A Future That Works” march in London.

They wore sashes and brandished hand made placards to spread the message about the £100m Bexhill-Hastings Link Road (BHLR)’s pivotal role in George Osborne’s new national road building programme.

Protestors claim the link road would cut a swathe through land which is a habitat to a wide variety of wildlife.

The Combe Haven Defenders (CHD), are calling on 1,066 people from across the country to “pledge to take part in peaceful resistance to the construction of the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road”. The Pledge is now also available to sign on-line at www.combehavendefenders.org.uk.

Rosa Canadas, a spokesperson for the Defenders said: “George Osborne, big business and local councils want to spend £20bn on hundreds of road projects across the country: a huge waste of public money and an environmental disaster. The Bexhill-Hastings Link Road is the first and the worst of these projects and therefore also a line in the sand: stop it, and we have a real chance to halt the whole road programme.
