A COMBINED team of Sussex Probation and Kent and Sussex charity Martha Trust battled in the heat at Westfield FC against Sussex Police for the annual Mary House Trophy.

The Police were looking to retain the trophy after their success in 2011.

The first half ended 0-0 with both teams playing well and the Police hitting the crossbar twice.

The second half was just as entertaining with plenty of chances to score on both sides.

The Police broke the deadlock when Ben Newman chipped the ball over the keeper from the edge of the area.

They didn’t have long to celebrate as shortly after, having won a corner, Probation equalised with a far post header from Matt McClean (Martha Trust).

This seemed to spur on the Probation side with a series of chances from Joe Dove (Probation) and Lee Browning (Probation) before the winning goal was finally scored by Siamack Danesteh-Pour (Probation).

An appeal for a penalty from The Police was dismissed by referee Mick ‘Specsavers’ Delaney and following a save right on the final whistle, Probation won back the trophy.

The trophy was presented by Julie Gayler from Martha Trust to Probation’s Captain, Joe Dove and the celebrations began.

The overall purpose of the day was to provide vital support to Martha Trust.

The charity cares for people with profound disabilities and the funds will help to ensure that they are given the very best opportunities in life.

The teams raised a combined total of £135.

Vicki Pulman, spokesperson for the Martha Trust, said: “Thank you to all who gave up their time to take part, Westfield FC for the use of their facilities and to David Walters at Hastings Utd for the loan of a kit to The Probation Service.”

The Squad was: Dean Jinks, Joe Dove (Capt), Pete Cooper, Andy Tardif, Jeremy King, Siamack Danesteh-Pour, Lee Browning, Matt McClean, Scott Quinn, Ryan Jinks, Grant Payne, Gary Kennard, all under the management of David ‘Fergie’ Satchell.
