Police to carry out spot tyre checks

SUSSEX Police will be carrying out random road-side safety checks as part of National Tyre Safety Month.

The new checks were rolled out on the A27 near Lewes last Friday and four drivers were prevented from carrying on their journey due to the poor condition of their vehicle’s tyres.

PC Barry Freeman said: “The checks highlight the need for all drivers to regularly check their tyres and their overall vehicle condition. Defects in your tyres can significantly affect your vehicle leading to an increased risk of being involved in a collision, particularly with the approach of winter.”
