Rain doesn’t stop play at open day

DESPITE some dampness, the open day at Brownbread Horse Rescue in Ashburnham managed to pull in many enthusiastic visitors, as well as a record number of stalls.

The pedigree and novelty dog show, judged by Lynn Morley and Brett MacLean, was well-attended and the First in Show won by Fiona Carrick with her dalmatian Miley.

Reserved Best was Chimene Carrico and a special overall prize was given to Christine Hipfner with her American cocker spaniel, Echo.

On stage the Iceni Belly Dancers gave their colourful performance and, for the first time, the Hastings School of Performing Arts sent three very talented singers, Lauren, Sarah Coleman and guitarist/singer Poppy Prescott.

Elsewhere in the yard the Hunters Moon Morris gave a spectacular display in their black and silver costumes accompanied by their own musicians and visitors tried their hand at archery, shooting at dinosaur targets and balloons, organised by Adrian Caddy.

In the arena paraequestrian rider, Emilly Lawes, gave a showy performance on her horse, Ulysses.

Also displaying their talents in the arena were the Dog Agility Display team and the Senlac High-Steppers also gave their usual colourful performance, complete with pompoms and batons.

Classic cars were on show, Donna Christman managed the bouncy castle and face painting and Bexhill Lions ran the barbecue.

A total of £2,800 was raised for Brownbread and five of the centre’s rescued ponies were arranged to go to new homes on loan on the day.

The trustees wish to thank everyone who helped make the day a success.
