RDC approves £8.5k grant for a games area

A COMMUNITY grant of £8,500 towards the cost of a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) on the site of long-established tennis courts at Sedlescombe Playing Field and Recreation Ground has been approved by the council.

Rother District Council gave the thumbs-up to the grant when councillors met on Monday (September 3).

Members heard that a £5,000 grant had already been awarded to the £27,000-plus project in 2011/12, but with ‘Lottery Inspired Funding’ not having been achieved, and the scheme now being driven by Sedlescombe Parish Council, it was felt appropriate to add a further sum from Rother.

Those expected to benefit from the MUGA include local residents, plus the village’s netball club and Sedlescome Rangers Football Club.

The project has already attracted financial support from other sources, including the Mrs A Lacy-Tate Trust, the Sussex County Playing Fields Association and an anonymous donor who has contributed £1,000 towards the total.
