Red Peasmarsh Primary

Red Peasmarsh Primary

SCHOOL children in the Rye area sported red noses and held imaginative events to raise money for the Comic Relief appeal.

Youngsters at Rye Community Primary School dressed up in red outfits on Friday, while red noses, on sale from Thursday, sold like hot cakes according to the school’s Sue Ball.

Peasmarsh School raised an impressive £175 with an event organised by pupils Layton and Charlie. Children came to school dressed in onesies or p.j.’s and the pair arranged for all the children to have their face painted, and set up various games including jelly racing, three legged and balloon racing. It Rachael Veal, from the school, said: “It took a lot of skill to organise such a great afternoon for such a lot of people. It was lovely to see everyone having such a good time whilst raising money.

“Another pupil, Patrick raised the grand total of £62 by swimming 101 lengths. We are very proud to have such amazing, caring children at Peasmarsh School.”

Children at Brede Primary raised a record £195 with a mufti day and cake sale.

Head Nicole Cummins said: “Home-backed goodies produced by the staff were snapped up by children in five minutes. We also held a raffle where parents kindly donated some fantastic cakes.”

Pupils at Guestling Bradshaw Primary School raised an incredible £309. Families baked cakes and biscuits to sell at the school’s big Bake Off on Friday. Kate Tugwell, from the school, said: “During assemblies in the week leading up to Red Nose Day, children had been wondering how they could help to give hope to others as part of our Worship theme. As well as baking, children sported crazy hair and red noses and the day was very successful.”

Jessie Blight from Rye College also collected £107.73 for Comic Relief at the celebration of the opening of a new building at Rye Wharf.

Thirteen year old Annabelle Trew swam for an hour non-stop at Rye Leisure Centre to raise more than £60 foe Comic Relief. Annabelle would like to thank Rye Pool and all her sponsors.
