Rother gives £60k to Robertsbridge sports hall project

A PROJECT to build a new sports hall at Robertsbridge Community College has been given a boost by Rother District Council to the tune of £60,000.

At a full council meeting on October 1, Cllr Graham Browne asked if a £50,000 capital grant towards a new sports hall at the school could be increased by a further £50,000 to meet a funding shortfall of £100,000.

The matter was deferred to an RDC cabinet meeting on Monday.

But although councillors agreed it was a worthy project, some pointed out that the council just did not have the funds to spare for the full £100,000.

Cllr Tony Ganly described it as “an excellent project” and added: “It fully deserves our support.”

Seconded by Cllr Bob White, he proposed amending the original £50,000 grant to £60,000.

Cllr Robin Patten said that there was no criticism of the scheme at all, but added: “The capital funds we have available are extremely limited.”

Cabinet members voted to grant £60,000 to Robertsbridge Community College for the project.
