Rye Film Club hits 1,000 members
RYE Film Club is set to reach a total of 1.000 members
The Club has been running since 1998, showing films on the first Friday of every month. With 999 registered members.
This week, they will sell their 1,000th membership
ticket to whoever is new to the Club and first in the queue for the screening tonight (Friday).
John Holbrook, Chairman of the Film Club, said: “We show contemporary films to audiences once a month providing a much loved service to local people who cannot access cinema in Ashford or Hawkhurst.
“This year has been a bumper crop of Oscar nominated films. In addition, on the third Friday of the month we have been showing films shot in and around Rye, such as Dr Syn and Yellowbeard.
“Next month we start a series of classic films on the big screen with Passport to Pimlico, and David Lean’s Oliver in November.
“It is also a lovely social occasion and chance for friends to catch up over a glass of wine before the screening.”
“The Film Club started from humble origins and has grown and grown over the years, thanks to an enthusiastic bunch of volunteers who run the committee.
“Today (7th Sept) Rye Film Club is showing Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, with Ewan McGregor, at the Community Centre (doors 18:30 for 19:00 showing). Why not come along and you could be the 1,000th ticket holder of this well established Club. Membership tickets cost £12, giving you entry to three films, or members may bring guests for just £5 a ticket.”
