Rye tag rugby

MORE than 100 youngsters from the Rye area took part in a Tag Rugby tournament at Rye Rugby Club last week.

John Izod, who helped on the day, said: "They all came along with their packed lunches and had a really good time. The idea was for them to have fun and an introduction to rugby. The club has a very active youth policy which is going from strength to strength under Jeremy Nobbs."

The tournament was one of an ongoing series of events organised by the club and aimed at young people.

A spokesman for Rye Rugby Club said: "Our growing and successful youth section encourages the young people of Rye and the surrounding villages to take part in and stay within our sport. Three years ago we had less than 10 players, now we have over 80.

"We welcome children and teenagers of all abilities (and their parents), boys and girls from six years of age to 19, to play rugby for the club. Our aim is to help children enjoy rugby in a safe and friendly environment – whilst helping them improve their game to whatever level of ability they are capable of attaining.

"By developing their rugby skills, encouraging respect for each other, and team work, we seek to provide them with the playing and social skills useful to them later on in their lives."
