Scarecrows help Udimore fete raise £2,000 for the church

Udimore enjoyed perfect weather for its Summer Fete on Saturday.

The event, on the cricket field, made a popular return after a two year absence.

It was promoted in an unusual and eye-catching way by scarecrows which appeared along the length of the Udimore Road.

The scarecrows were significant as one of the highlights of the busy fete was a scarecrow competiition, which was won by Pauline Nailor.

Other attractions included bowling for whisky and ham, birds of prey, dancing displays and a variety of stalls.

Children enjoyed face-painting and parachuting Teddies.

The Fete was organised by the committee of the Friends of St Mary's and raised well over 2,000 for the maintenance and repair of the parish church.

The chair of the Friends, Cathy Bingham, would like to thank everyone who helped organise the event and came along to suppport it.
