Schools close early as snow begins to freeze

Schools are closing early in some parts of Rother as travel conditions deteriorate in sub-zero temperatures.

The latest to announce half days are: Bexhill College, Guestling Bradshaw Primary School, Netherfield Church of England Primary School, Peasmarsh Church of England Primary School, Rye College, Icklesham Church of England Primary School and Robertsbridge Community College.

Netherfield School is closing early, having lost all power.

Winchelsea Road was closed for a time this morning, with vehicles stuck in the queue that built up as a result and a vehicle turned on its side in Udimore Road, near Rye, as a result of the snow.

There are reports of black ice and long delays on some country roads.

St Mary’s Lane in Bexhill partially blocked in both directions between the Turkey Road junction and the A269 Ninfield Road junction, because of an accident involving three vehicles.

The Met Office forecast snow over last night - and there is more too come.

They have forecast snow for most of Monday and overnight into Tuesday.

But the good news is it is going to get warmer on Wednesday and Thursday.
