Science workshop at Battle Abbey School
Young scientists at Battle Abbey School got the chance to show off their skills in the run up to the fifth annual Brighton Science Festival.
Richard Robinson and Dr Jonathan Hare, from TV's Rough Science, hosted a workshop for Year 7 and 8 pupils in the school's brand new state-of-the-art laboratories.
Pupils were tasked to build their own small-scale device to harvest a renewable energy.
The aim was to generate as much electricity as possible to power electronic devices such as LED torches, calculators, radios and even a secret treasure box.
2009 marks the fifth year of the Brighton Science Festival, a week long series of events designed to celebrate science in all its forms.
The festival's mission is to take science out of the laboratory and classroom and bring it into the community, engaging the public, entertaining and educating at the same time.
Battle Abbey is just one of the schools and colleges to be visited by Dr Hare in the run up to the festival, which takes place February 21-28.
